This comprehensive 3-month professional training program led by Sophie Pyne, LCSW, is designed to impart the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to effectively incorporate ocean healing and nature therapy into your business or practice with clients and community.

OHTP combines theory, practicum, and entrepreneurial education to empower success beyond graduation, providing you with the essential tools and skills needed to build an ethical and thriving business around the ocean.

As an OHTP Graduate, you will receive the following certifications:

**Optional add on Surf Therapy Facilitator Certification through Waves of Recovery

Ocean Therapy Program is a structured 3 month certification program led by Sophie Pyne that allows practitioners to confidently incorporate ocean healing and therapy modalities into their business and practice with clients.

During this 3 month program, you will receive:

About Sophie Pyne, LCSW

Sophie Pyne is a licensed clinical social worker, holistic therapist and founder of Waves of Recovery, a non-profit dedicated to helping heal addiction and mental health through surfing and the ocean.  

Sophie has combined her clinical background with the healing powers of the ocean to support clients all over the world in experiencing deep and meaningful transformation. She was most recently featured for her non-profit work on The Kelly Clarkson Show and has inspired audiences as the keynote speaker for Unite for Change and Mental Health for US and as an inspirational speaker for the Alcoholism Center for Women's 13th Annual Bring Hope Home event and New Directions for Women’s Annual Breakfast. She also works with clients one-on-one and groups to help them rise above addiction and other mental health conditions through ocean healing and therapy.

 FAQs

  • This 3 month training program begins on Monday October 2nd and ends on December 20th 2023. All training calls, zoom beach community calls and master classes will be taught on Zoom.

  • No! The only prerequisite for this training is a personal connection with the ocean, a willingness to deepen that connection, and the desire to help others. Many of our applicants work in the wellness industry or are therapists, social workers, and teachers. However, none of these careers paths are necessary to train or become a great ocean therapist.

    This program will teach you the basics & the fundamentals of ocean healing and therapy AND how to start your own wellness business sharing ocean healing. If you already have experience with ocean healing & therapy, read the next FAQ.

  • Absolutely!! This cutting-edge training will present ocean healing and therapy in a way that you likely have not studied or encountered it before. Furthermore, this training has a strong business component that will teach you valuable branding and marketing skills that can help you expand your existing ocean healing and therapy practice into a 6-figure business.

  • No! Sophie works with people from all over the world. This 3 month intensive program is virtual! We meet on Zoom once/week for 12 weeks. There are additional opportunities for in person experiences by the Ocean. So if you are not in Los Angeles, you will still receive practices for these experiences to participate and benefit from wherever you are!

  • We feel it is important to get to know people before they register for a training to make sure this is a good fit. We consider applications based on a variety of factors, but ultimately we're looking for individuals whom we believe will make good ocean therapists. Being a good ocean therapist does not require a background in marine biology, psychotherapy or medicine; more often than not, the most desirable qualities in a facilitator are connected to how they tend relationships.

    Once your application is received, our team will review it, and if you are accepted into the program, send an acceptance letter within one week. This letter will contain all the information for next steps, including a link to the training registration page.

  • Yes absolutely! We have many students who take this training while working full time. It does take commitment from the student's side because there are assignments that need to be completed. Typically, students should plan on spending between 8 hours each week between live meetings (on Zoom, which are recorded in the event you miss them), online course work (such as reading, videos, quizzes), and field work in the ocean (practicing invitations, sit spot, and ocean sessions).

  • Yes, all calls will be recorded and shared within 24 hours of the call. We strongly suggest you join us live for the training calls and participate to receive the most out of the program!

  • Yes! We know education and therapeutic work is a huge investment, that is why we break it up into payments. However, you will receive a discount if you pay in full.

  • Yes! Sophie provides private coaching at an additional cost that include:

    - Additional one-on-one coaching and healing sessions

    - Direct access to Sophie for daily support, guidance, and live coaching
